Located approximately 7 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1, Garrapata State Park is at the northern most point of Big Sur. You can’t beat Garrapata for a hike that will take your breath away, in more ways than one (literally).  Roughly about 3K vertical feet, Garrapata is not a trail for your grandparents, its a steep climb up and a steep drop down.Garrapata’s bold, vertical headlands and offshore sea stacks are a combination of granitic rock, marine sandstone, shale, volcanic rock and chert. Their proximity to several fault lines keeps them in a state of seismic movement.

I scouted the area out during the daylight before I went in. There had been a week of fog socked into the area with brief breaks of sun especially in the afternoon and evening.When I arrived pre sunrise the next day, I walked in on the trail and thought I knew where I was going. I took a head light but had it packed in my camera bag (me not bright)! Soon after, I fell off the cliff, rolled with a firm landing here. Not knowing if I was going to get out, I just sat quietly and took in all that was in front of me, looked behind (the cliff) and thought I would stay for a bit.  After some time acclimating  I set up the tripod, camera and remote and waited. This is the first light from the floor.

Located in Big Sur, California, McWay Falls is an incredibly scenic waterfall. McWay Creek drops 84 ft. off a cliff onto the beach nestled in a pretty little cove. The overlook view of the cove where the waterfall drops, is stunning to say the least. Unfortunately, you cannot get onto the scenic beach (legally), as the cliffs are too crumbly and dangerous to descend (and if you try it, be prepared to receive a very hefty fine). I think, though, if it were possible to get down to the beach, this waterfall would lose something of its grandeur and mystique. The view is stunning, and the waterfall is alluring and out of reach. It adds to the beauty in my opinion.

Ask these Sweet Kids. Apparently, “studies show Little evidence to support the claim that refined sugar has a significant influence on the behavior or cognitive performance in children”.  I was going thru a few past Photo Sessions and started looking at some of the outtakes, especially the eyes of these sugar deprived children(not).  Several articles that I’ve read say that giving children sugar does not alter their behavior. In past studies, they (who are they) state it’s the parents expectations of what sugar will do to a child that shapes this myth. Often times, cake introduced at parties is not what hypes the kids, its the interaction with fellow party participants.

Sometimes you just don’t know what a person is completely into.  As I met Ian, he clearly had it together, born and raised in Hershey, PA, I knew he enjoyed his chocolate. Intelligent, Fun and in Love.  He is a doctor and would come to Omaha on occasion for his bride’s family events. But on the day of his Wedding, he Came out! He really enjoys all the Superheros… Batman, Spiderman and Superman to name a few.  I wasn’t sure if he was going to fly that day although he did insist that I call him Clark during the Wedding Photography.  I believe in you Ian!!

It was quite a different experience to see someone you would normally associate press coverage exclusivity in Washington DC, arrive in Omaha and speak at a small gathering at the Omaha Field Club.  Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in the Big ‘O’ to rally for the Team Boswell for Congress campaign. Right, he is in Iowa, but was rallying in Omaha?  I find it odd that this would be hosted in Omaha but welcomed the opportunity to meet and Photograph for this Event.  I was impressed with their bold passion for their views and for support of the Democratic Party.
