Perhaps all of us have heard the term “snap shot”. At the moment the camera’s shutter “snap’s” that moment is no longer available, other than how the photographer saw, framed and captured it.
Given wedding moments, say, wedding pictures of bridesmaids, some moments continue, others are there and gone within the fraction of a second; whether watching how the older sister reached out to the bride to pass her vail while a tear flows from her eye, or the toasting of mamosa’s in the back room before “professional wedding photographs” begin.
As a lead Wedding Photojournalist in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska, Steve Kowalski admits that this is a work in process; that is, keeping both eyes open for the fleeting moment, anticipation of the moment and binding it in a photograph forever.
From behind the lens, Steve has spent countless hours watching and waiting for the moment to make strong candid wedding photos. All the years spent panning scenes has helped exercise the visual side of the brain to spot certain details that could make great pictures that would otherwise be missed by the casual eye.
Learning by observing the careful planning that goes into the wedding day, asking questions in advance that brought out the conversation about the Bride’s Aunt taking day’s out to prepare the Wedding Cake makes the details of the wedding cake pictures even that more important.
Even for the reception pictures, Steve is careful to record all of the 800 details that have been planned for. He will document these in a fine art style. Later on, these details can then become very important in the layout of the Bride and Groom’s primary Coffee Table Album or Parent Album.
